Why is the transition from BD glucose tablets to Dex4 glucose tablets taking place?
As of September 30, BD has discontinued making its glucose tablets. In its place, BD suggests Can-Am Care’s Dex4 Fast-Acting Glucose products as a comparable replacement for correcting low blood sugar episodes.
Why is this transition from BD glucose tablets to Dex4 glucose tablets important?
It impacts the way people with diabetes prepare and care for incidents of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. Low blood sugar is one of the most common complications for the millions of people who use insulin therapy and some oral medications to manage their diabetes. When these incidents occur, people with diabetes rely on products such as glucose tablets, gels, and liquids to restore their blood sugar levels to normal ranges.
As the manufacturer and marketer of Dex4 Fast-Acting Glucose products, Can-Am Care is working closely with BD to ensure that this transition is smooth.
Why did BD discontinue making its glucose tablets?
Please call BD Customer Service at 1-888- 237-2762 option 3 for information about BD’s decision to discontinue making glucose tablets.
What products does Dex4 make to correct low blood sugars?
How do Dex4 Fast-Acting Glucose products work? Are they similar to BD’s glucose tablets?
Like BD’s tablets, Dex4 glucose tablets are made from d-glucose (also known as dextrose), ensuring the body immediately processes them and quickly raises blood sugar levels, correcting hypoglycemia.
How many carbs do Dex4 glucose products contain? Is the amount the same as with BD glucose tablets?
Each Dex4 glucose tablet contains 4 grams of fast-acting carbohydrate. BD’s discontinued line of glucose tablets contained 5 grams each. Therefore, people who corrected their hypoglycemia by consuming four BD glucose tablets to ingest 20 grams will now need to consume five Dex4 glucose tablets (delivering 20 grams). Dex4 glucose gels and liquids each contain 15 grams of carbohydrate to correct hypoglycemia.
What flavors of Dex4 glucose products are available?
Dex4 Fast-Acting Glucose products are available in a variety of flavors. Tablets are available in orange, grape, raspberry, sour apple, watermelon and assorted flavors. Liquids are available in lemon lime and berry burst, and gels are available in tropical blast.
Where can I purchase Dex4 glucose products?
